Don’t Give Up

Excerpt:

don’t give up
you still have us
don’t give up
we don’t need much of anything
don’t give up
’cause somewhere there’s a place
where we belong

rest your head
you worry too much
it’s going to be alright
when times get rough
you can fall back on us
don’t give up
please don’t give up

– from Don’t Give Up, by Peter Gabriel

Oh my!  Wouldn’t it be powerful to hear these words whispered in our ear on a regular basis.

The days on which words like these would be a much needed boost are much more frequent than not, at least in my own life.  Whether its personal challenges, difficult relationships, professional challenges, or just a sense of longing for a greater purpose in what we do in life, it is easy to think about alternatives – greener grass.

Romans 12:12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.

This passage reminds us of the virtue of perseverance.  No matter what we face, we are to look for hope, be patient and remember to pray.  God is present with us, even in our darkest times, whispering through the spirit:
“Don’t give up, don’t give up, don’t give up.
rest your head
you worry too much
it’s going to be alright
when times get rough
you can fall back on us
don’t give up
please don’t give up”

    Pastor Chris,
I miss you so. Ironic you post this. In my darkest time you told me to listen to music. This is one of the songs I would play endlessly. Still Pastoring me from a far.
